I’m sure some of you may have guessed it in my previous teaser post, but I’m so happy to “officially” say that we’ve bought a house!
The purchase was a long-time coming. In short, we made an offer on the house in late July, but there was a lot of back and forth with everyone involved and the whole thing wasn’t a done deal until last Friday. I’ve heard horror stories about what could happen during a house closing, and ours was pretty close to becoming its own horror story. But… I will spare the gory details here because all that matters is – THE HOUSE IS OURS!
I love that this house is a clean slate for Jose and me. We’ve been renters our whole married life, and I’ve never allowed myself to decorate our rented homes the way I wanted to. This house is old (built in 1942), but the previous owners did a good job of renovating the walls, windows, plumbing, electric wiring, etc. The design changes they made to the interior aren’t far from what I would have done with the place, but there are little improvements here and there that I want to make in order to make the place our own.
First thing we plan to tackle are the hardwood floors. Right now the floors are painted white – which, in some interiors I actually like, but I just don’t think it’s very practical for us right now. Midland is a very dusty city and I could just see the dogs leaving paw prints EVERYWHERE. So after much deliberation, I think we decided to re-do the finish ourselves! This is a major project for us – I know it’s not going to be easy – but we’re going to dive in there and give it a go.
I’m sure the direction of my blog posts will be more focused on house stuff these next few months. I hope ya’ll don’t mind seeing plenty of before and after pics as we begin to make this house our home!!
(Both pics taken by me, with my iPhone).
